Can you go a day without electricity?
It’s a true inconvenience having the power go down. It always seems like it happens on days you can’t afford; the hottest day of the summer when your freezer is freshly filled or the coldest day of the winter when your grandmother has come to visit.
While you’re fretting about the damage the power outage will cause, calling Hydro every hour to get an update, there is something to be learned that you can apply to offer you significant savings.
Perhaps the tactic to take isn’t to wait until the next time the power goes down, but do it when you have the control. Take your house offline for a few hours and watch what you pine for and what can be let go. Of course, the difficulty arises when you have young children, but making it fun for them can get your whole family into the habit of living without power, or at least, with a little less.
