If you watch enough home-renovation shows on television, you will realize there is a formula they go by. Why not? It wouldn’t be worth watching if there weren’t any setbacks.
Of course the reno is so far along by the time anyone sees a problem that you can’t stop and undo the progress. When it comes to the electrical issues that are hidden behind your walls, more often if your home is older, especially those built in the last century, sacrifices have to be made. Bathroom or kitchen, basement or garage. Hidden problems can be scary and expensive.
Of course, sometimes it isn’t as obvious as we would hope. An audit may not show some of the problems so easily.
Some of those problems may include:

  1. Improper junctions – You should have a junction box that is properly mounted and covered so all connections are secure and not open to tiny fingers or critters.
  2. Too few outlets – An experienced electrician will notice the inkling of this issue by the size of the house and the number of breakers or fuses on your panel. The problem comes when you have outlets that shouldn’t be running at the same time connected on the same line.
  3. Loose wires – It could be in a junction box, an outlet, or a light fixture. When dealing with a loose wire, hazards can be faulty lights or the risk of fire.

Sometimes you spend more time searching for a problem, while others require fixing. When you’re doing renovations, you need to be prepared for small hiccups and large changes to your plans.
