Whether you’re starting into a large project like a commercial restaurant or a small bathroom, once you begin, delays can be costly. In fact, when you establish your plan, deviating from it can cause significant overruns and may even stop your progress entirely.
Here are four of the most important reasons why you shouldn’t change your mind mid-project.

  1. Contractors are busy. When you delay them by a day or two, you may not see them for months as they have to reschedule you in again.

  1. Permits – Changing your plan may make it impossible to complete others parts of your project because of permit requirements or zone variances.

  1. Cost overruns – It may not seem like much to you, but small changes can incur large costs. You may have to get an engineer to rework your load tolerances and make sure it’s even possible.

  1. Rework, especially when it comes to your electrical can be costly. Not only do you have material, but you have time. Just because you change a project doesn’t mean the work that’s already been completed doesn’t have to be paid for.

Before you start into a project, make sure you know what you want. Take the time to feel good about the project so you don’t find the need to change things later. Not only will you save time, but money as well. Then, if you want to adjust something later, do it after your project is completed.
