People often underestimate the importance of your demolition crew. Often, they aren’t skilled trades people and so they’re chosen at random without care taken to ensure they understand the work at hand.
Unfortunately, this can become costly if they don’t take the time to clean out a location entirely before inspections or the arrival of other trades.
We often explain to clients about a time when an inspector found wiring that wasn’t traced properly. Concrete had to be removed to make sure the wiring wasn’t something that could cause other major problems. Who really knows where those old wires came from. Projects long since completed or abandoned. Thankfully, no other work was completed in the mean time. If it had, some or all of it may have been compromised and removed as a consequence.
Ask around, your other trades will know good contractors. References are usually reserved for the trades themselves, but trust goes a long way when it comes to the clean up.
Be prepared to pay a little more because there’s truth in the saying, you get what you pay for.
It can be very frustrating when you don’t get your project started properly. Ensure your demolition crew fully understands what’s needed. When they have an understanding of the code, you will get a better start and can achieve your efficiencies much better.
